Two tools, one principle

Process

How it works

  1. Open the file

A WhatsApp export, your phone backup or a Google Takeout archive. It opens right in the browser.

  2. Review and mark

Search, star important messages, play and transcribe voice messages, translate text.

  3. Download the extract

PDF, Word or text. A linked list of starred messages first, then the full conversation.

Privacy

Your conversations stay with you

KeepMyChat has no server that receives your files. The website only delivers the app; your browser does all the work.

Happens on your computer

  • Decrypting the backup
  • Recognising voice messages
  • Translation
  • Creating the document

Never happens

  • Uploading files to a server
  • Accounts and sign-up
  • Storing your conversations with us
  • Saving the 64-digit key

The first time you use speech recognition or the fallback translator, the browser downloads a language model from a public library. Only the model travels to your computer; your recordings go nowhere.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

WhatsApp only offers to export without media. What can I do?

For large chats WhatsApp often refuses to export photos and voice messages. Use your phone backup instead: KeepMyChat decrypts it in your browser and attaches each message's file. Step-by-step guide.

Is it safe?

Your files never leave your computer: decryption, speech recognition and document creation run in the browser. You can check it yourself: open the app, disconnect from the internet, and it keeps working (except the first language model download).

How much does it cost?

KeepMyChat is currently free and needs no sign-up.

Which browser should I use?

Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on a computer. They support folder selection and built-in translation.

Will the extract work in court?

The extract clearly shows the date, time, sender and original text, and voice messages come with a transcript. Whether evidence is admitted is up to the court, so ask your lawyer about your case.

Can I give my lawyer just one chat?

Yes. The app creates an encrypted case package (.chatcase) containing only the chosen chat, its files, transcripts and marks. No backup, no 64-digit key and no other chats. Share the password separately, for example by phone.

Does it work with iPhone?

Chat export (.zip) from iPhone works. Backup decryption is Android-only for now.
