How to save Gmail messages from one sender with Google Takeout

Download your mail with Google Takeout, and KeepMyChat picks out only the emails of the person you need.

Which way to choose

The most reliable way is to export all mail and pick the sender in the app, so no email gets lost. If your mailbox is very large, you can export a single label.

All mail

  1. Open takeout.google.com and sign in to the right account.
  2. Click Deselect all and tick only Mail.
  3. Click Next step: “Send download link via email”, “Export once”, file type .zip, size e.g. 10 GB.
  4. Click Create export. When Google emails you, download the archive. It can take from minutes to hours.
  5. Open the Gmail extract and drop in the .zip or .mbox file.
  6. Tick the sender in the list. The extract will contain only their emails.

A single label

  1. In Gmail search, type from:address@example.com.
  2. Select all emails, click “Select all conversations that match this search” and apply a new label.
  3. In Takeout, next to Mail click All Mail data included, deselect everything and keep only that label.

Gmail applies labels to whole threads, so the archive will also contain your replies and other people's emails. That's fine: once you pick the sender in the app, only their emails remain in the extract.

If Gmail shows more emails than the archive, check that you selected “all conversations that match this search”, not just the first 50 on the page.
